The online doctorate in educational leadership from MU lets you continue your career while also acquiring skills that you can put to use immediately. If you are a practicing educational leader ready to enhance your leadership skills and career opportunities, this may be the degree for you.

Certification

The program is not designed to lead to professional licensure or certification. If you wish to enhance your degree with the requirements for certification or licensure, you will have to pursue an educational specialist degree in addition to this doctorate.

Program structure and topics

Delivery of this program is blended: Your course work will be online and in person on MU’s Columbia, Missouri campus during your first two summers and all students will participate in course work on Wednesday evenings during the fall and spring semesters with their assigned partner institution (synchronously online for those assigned to the virtual cohort). Meeting dates and times are subject to change each semester.

All students are expected to attend an in-person orientation in the late Spring.

Courses are semester-based. The department anticipates students will need four years to complete the course work and earn their degrees.

Course work includes

  • Leadership theory and practice
  • Organizational analysis
  • Educational policy
  • Content and context of learning
